Abstract
We are a republic in which all hope of living in a homeland for every Peruvian seems to be lost in the labyrinths of our ideological disputes, discriminations, resentments, hatreds and exclusions that come from the past and that still flourish in trivialities of a meaningless present and almost always close to the void of what is our nation and peruanity. I am not talking here about the republic of events and school textbooks, a republic that feeds false hopes about the day when we will enjoy its promise. I am talking about a republic that is always uncertain and delusional in the purposes and ideals undermined by our republicanism, liberalism, nationalism and socialism; of a republic that is diminished in the neglect and misfortune of its governability, which has not ceased to spoil the changes that have been attempted throughout our history. I am talking about the homeland without sovereignty, of the phantasmal homeland and that we can only imagine in the distance of its perdition and oblivion; a homeland that only wakes up in the passing of our sensibility, and that it is difficult for us to find in our history to satisfy our desires for greatness and peruanity. I am talking, like Renán, about “the homeland [which] is an earthly thing”, and I free myself from the “whoever wants to be an angel will always be a bad patriot”. I am talking about the absence and undermining for the historical side and the extending of our republic, because the truth is that we are a republic with a history that has been lost between its frustrations and a strangely entangled future in which everything seems to tell us that there is no way to go or exit to find to avoid the judging gaze of the founders of the republic, that from the past - as we can imagine-, claim us for having taken it to its perdition and
almost extinction, and ask why we continue being, in spite of the time, a lost republic in the labyrinths of the thousand faces with which it was founded. Faces that still seem to look at each other with resentment, disdain, and fear from the traces of time lost in the most distant past of affronts and defeats, faces that seem to tell us that the future will not cease to be for us Peruvians an illusion and a promise always unfulfilled; because it seems that what we Peruvians are will always lack the weave or the weft of a social and human fabric that allows us to find a way out of the racial labyrinths, of misery and fortune that separate us;
labyrinths that do not stop telling us that everything we know about us seems to have been destined for repetition in the banal and naive aspects of a future without a bearable and endearing history.
Keywords: Labyrinth, history, republic, peruanity, frustration.
ER -
