This study analyses the dynamics of street vendors in urban public space through agent-based modelling, assessing their self-organisation and its impact on urban habitability. Using two models, the self-organisation of street vendors is simulated in a virtual environment, each cell representing random values of profit and habitability. Model A, a search algorithm, considers the need for sale and the level of urban habitability, while Model B also incorporates social capital, represented by mutual aid networks between customers, suppliers and vendors. The results show that Model A achieved an average urban habitability of 2.85 and profits of 2.50, compared to Model B, which presented a habitability of 1.19 and profits of 2.60. The correlation between urban habitability factors was high in both cases (R=0.998 and R=1). The analysis reveals that the Street equalizer factor, with values of 58.18 in Model A and 57.88 in Model B, is the most relevant weighted component in the habitability formula. These findings highlight the self-organization of street vendors as a viable strategy for their establishment in regulated areas of urban space.
Mibeldy Addais Marcelo Niño Copyright (c) 2024 mb marcelo https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-11-29 2024-11-29 2 2 21 33 10.4567/ull.v2i2.6802 Urban renaturalization strategies for social integration and prevention of informal expansion in Laderas de Villa María del Triunfo, Lima, Peru https://revistas.urp.edu.pe/index.php/ullaqta/article/view/6995
Exponential population growth on the hillsides of Lima, driven by informal urban expansion and lack of government regulation, has generated precarious and vulnerable settlements, exacerbating socio-spatial segregation. The use of the qualitative methodology used in the case, with field visits and interviews, supports the renaturalization proposal to address the problems that were recorded. Renaturalization seeks not only to restore environmental balance, but also to improve living conditions and reduce social and climatic vulnerability. The results obtained suggest the need for active community participation in the renaturalization process, considering environmental and social aspects. Security and regulation strategies to prevent informal occupations in renovated areas are considered in a Master Plan proposal, based on the results obtained. This comprehensive approach seeks to improve the current quality of life and promote long-term sustainable and equitable urban development.
Nicol Selene Baldeón Trigozo Brisseth Anthuannet Guerra Olortegui Lisbeth Mónica Rondinel Galván Aixa Antonella Villafuerte Rubio Copyright (c) 2024 Lucía de Fátima Velásquez Prieto; Nicol Selene Baldeón Trigozo, Brisseth Anthuannet Guerra Olortegui, Lisbeth Mónica Rondinel Galván, Aixa Antonella Villafuerte Rubio https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-11-24 2024-11-24 2 2 35 53 10.4567/ull.v2i2.6995 Towards resilience: Addressing climate change through sustainable development in the province of Santa through case studies https://revistas.urp.edu.pe/index.php/ullaqta/article/view/6996
This study addresses the relationship between urban vulnerability and resilience in the context of climate change in the province of Santa, Peru.
