EDITORIAL
REVISTA DE LA FACULTAD DE MEDICINA HUMANA 2024 - Universidad Ricardo Palma
1 Instituto de Investigaciones de Ciencias Biomédicas, Universidad Ricardo Palma. Lima, Perú.
Dear members of the scientific community, we are pleased to share with you a significant achievement: the Journal of the Faculty of Human Medicine (RFMH, by its Spanish acronym), edited by the Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias Biomédicas of the Universidad Ricardo Palma (INICIB-URP), has been evaluated and accepted for indexing in the prestigious international scientific database Scopus(1), due to its scientific quality. Scopus is an international platform that includes high-impact scientific journals across various disciplines.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has long prioritized research, as high-quality research is
essential(2). The importance of having a journal indexed in Scopus
transcends the university's institutional scope and signifies a contribution to the country, as it aids
its growth and positioning in the academic world. This achievement constitutes our legitimate academic
contribution to posterity and is dedicated to the Universidad Ricardo Palma and Peru, as well as to our
teachers, the entire journal team, and the memory of those who are no longer with us but whose example
remains an inspiration.
The official communication received by the editor in chief from the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory
Board (CSAB) was in May 2024. It is noteworthy that today, only three university journals in the field
of medicine in Peru are indexed: Annals of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de
San Marcos (UNMSM), the Herediana Medical Journal, and the Journal of Neuro-Psychiatry, both from the
Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), and now, the RFMH from our institution. This is a
recognition of the work of the team involved in its publication and constitutes a new milestone in the
editorial history of the Universidad Ricardo Palma.
The Journal of the Faculty of Human Medicine has a virtual ISSN: 2308-0531 and a printed ISSN:
1814-5469, publishes four issues per year, meets criteria and quality standards, and is indexed in
multiple international databases, establishing a solid foundation for evolution and success in both
academic and scientific environments. The primary objective of the journal is to promote high-rigor
research and disseminate scientific knowledge in a distinguished manner (3, 4). It is an open-access, peer-reviewed scientific journal available in full
text in Spanish and English, holds a CC BY 4.0 license, and contributes to the dissemination of original
research in medicine and public health.
The journal's collection has achieved significant indexations and the participation of authors and
researchers from various countries in Latin America, the USA, and Europe. It is funded by the
Universidad Ricardo Palma, is free, and contributes to quality publications as well as the fulfillment
of research management indicators.
The Journal of the Faculty of Human Medicine represents the work of the academic medical community, the
INICIB research faculty, and is the result of organized and timely collaborative work. Ensuring the
continuity of the commitment of the Faculty of Human Medicine and the University to strengthen the teams
involved in the editorial process, as well as the allocation of budgets, human resources, and
technology, is essential for the present and future of the journal and the university's prestige.
We are very pleased with the outcome and, moreover, aware of the challenges that maintaining this
database entails. This work has taken several years and has had the support of a prestigious group of
associate editors, national and international academic committees, and reviewers, in addition to the
authors who honor us by sending their article proposals. The acceptance for indexing in Scopus
represents a confirmation of the progression and quality leap achieved by the journal.
This indexing will benefit the journal in terms of international visibility; at the same time, we face
with great enthusiasm the challenges of maintaining the journal in the most prestigious international
rankings and seeking the highest quality in the published scientific works. To achieve this indexing,
the journal had to meet a series of previously evaluated requirements, such as the use of quality
standards in article review, optimal scientific writing, adherence to publication deadlines, and the
application of ethical standards in article publication, and the presence of external authors to URP.
The Journal of the Faculty of Human Medicine is a reference in the field of medicine and public health
in Peru and the region; it is currently visited by over 100 countries worldwide and has other important
indexations such as Embase, Scielo, DOAJ, Harvard Library, Directory of Research Journal Indexing,
EBSCO, LILACS, LATINDEX, DIGITAL COMMONS, among others5. Additionally, it is a full member of COPE and
CROSSREF.
We take this excellent opportunity to express our special thanks to the Rectorate of the Universidad
Ricardo Palma for the continuous support and backing provided to carry out the work. Strengthening
university journals remains a high priority.
We extend a special invitation to the entire national and international academic community to submit
their work. We will be pleased to receive your manuscripts for evaluation and publication in our
journal, as always.
