In this paper we study the discourses of ecclesiasti cal anti liberalism during the independence of Peru and Mexico. Three aspects are addressed in a sequenced manner. First, we observe the reacti ons that aroused, in both territories, the Spanish revoluti on of 1820 and the secularizing program promoted by the Cortes of Madrid. Next, we study some of the counterrevolutionary arguments with which certain individuals supported the emancipati ons. Finally, we highlight the interest that existed in the Mexican Empire in the case of Peru, at the ti me of confi guring a
network of knowledge in defense of the altar-throne alliance.
