Abstract

The text´s objective is to analyze and critically reflect on how disability manifests itself and is affected by the dynamics of the capitalist system and globalization. The interactions between economic policies and the social inclusion of persons with disabilities are explored, as well as the challenges and opportunities in this context. It also examines the implications of globalization on access to services and rights and discusses how these forces influence the perception and treatment of disability at the global level. The various approaches that disability has historically gone through are analyzed, detecting a prevalence of discrimination against these groups. Likewise, some of the characteristics of capitalism and globalization that affect how disability is conceived and the practices linked to such conception are discussed. It concludes by exposing the importance of understanding disability models throughout history to understand their evolution and how they can guide actions towards inclusion and universal accessibility, proposing an integration of approaches to make people with disabilities visible and dignified. It is recognized that globalization and capitalism will continue to impact our lives, and it is a collective responsibility to work for equity and justice, confronting outdated policies and discriminatory practices. This effort is vital not only for people with disabilities, but also for their families, friends, and society as a whole.
