Abstract

The contamination of aquatic ecosystems by toxic compounds represents a significant threat to biodiversity and environmental health. However, the assessment of ecotoxicological impact continues to face methodological limitations, particularly in the use of bioecotoximonitors. The objective was to consider descriptors for a protocol for evaluation in aquatic ecotoxicology using bioecotoximonitors. The methodology employed was based on the selection of bioecotoximonitors, measurement of biochemical, physiological, and population biomarkers, and advanced statistical analysis. The main results demonstrated significant correlations between contaminant bioaccumulation and adverse biological responses, allowing for the identification of toxicity thresholds. The discussion focused on comparing these findings with previous studies, emphasizing the importance of establishing specific protocols for different ecosystems. It is concluded that the implementation of descriptors optimizes ecotoxicological assessment and provides key scientific tools for the management and conservation of water resources.
