The exploratory systematic review and formative research in translation. The problem of meaning in message interpretation

Abstract

In recent years we have observed an increasing number of publications, but also the appearance of predatory journals in which the quality of the research papers is not as expected. The boom in publication and scientific productivity is positive insofar as it shows the interest of institutions in doing research. Therefore, the objective of this article is to search for a formative research methodology that will help junior researchers to enter the world of scientific research in translation, to base their studies on solid theoretical approaches and to employ appropriate methodologies. We consider that the exploratory systematic review fulfills this purpose and presents itself as a valid and effective research alternative to train researchers in the field of descriptive translation studies and Translatology.  We conclude that the systemic review fulfills several functions, among which are to familiarize the student with translation research at different levels of the curriculum, to systematize a corpus of national and international research works, to be an input for applied studies and for the establishment of existing and unexplored lines of research, among others.
