Impact of Covid-19 on the Lima Stock Exchange Year 2020: Peru Case

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the impact of Covid-19 on the Lima Stock Exchange. For this purpose, documentary research was used, and the information used was obtained from various sources, including the IIF, the WHO, the BVL and the SMV. It was found that the impact of Covid-19 on the development of BVL activities was significant, causing large drops in the most important indices and reducing the flow of transactions during 2020. Likewise, economic sectors such as mining and hydrocarbons suffered considerable declines that affected stock market activity in the country. However, despite the negative impact of Covid-19 on the BVL, its operations were able to gradually recover at the end of 2020, with its main indices S&P/BVL Peru Select and S&P/BVL Peru General closing at +3.76% and +1.44%, respectively.
