Abstract

This geotechnical report offers an exhaustive analysis of the geotechnical solution implemented for the foundation bases of the 7 towers in the Villa Panamericana complex. These towers, consisting of three 19-story towers and four 20-story towers, were built as part of the 2019 Pan American Games project, in the Villa el Salvador district of Lima, Peru. It should be noted that this project presents structural challenges of unprecedented magnitude in this type of deposits transported in the country, due to the characteristics of the soils of wind origin. To carry out the analysis, an investigative collaboration was carried out between several companies specialized in geotechnics. Various field exploration techniques were used to obtain precise information on the characteristics and behavior of the supporting soil. The results indicate the presence of granular soils of the clean, poorly graded, slightly humid sand type with little amount of fines, whose consistency, of these granular soils of the SP type, varies from loose on the surface, to moderately dense and dense at greater depth, without the presence of groundwater levels. Different alternatives were evaluated to solve the problems in the foundation soil, and finally, it was decided to replace the inappropriate soil with a hydraulic concrete fill to a depth of 3 meters, where the 1m-thick rigid foundation plate rests. This innovative solution was applied due to the magnitude of the structure to be built, time restrictions and soil characteristics.
