The "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana" of the Ricardo Palma University (http://revistas.urp.edu.pe/index.php/RFMH) is a quarterly scientific journal that publishes original articles in Spanish and English, and will consider for publication those works related to public health, surgery, clinical sciences and basic sciences, such works must not have been previously published, nor sent simultaneously to other scientific journals. The "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana" of the Ricardo Palma University adheres to the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org).
Sex and gender
The "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana" has adopted the recommendation guides developed by the EASE to report the Equity of Sex and Gender in Research (SAGER Guidelines). These guidelines apply to both original research articles and review articles.
The SAGER guidelines aim to improve the equity of sex and gender in research, thus contributing to the integrity of research and increasing its performance.

Shipping or Submission of articles

The manuscripts can be submitted in Spanish or English electronically through the "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana" editorial system, accessible at the web address: http://revistas.urp.edu.pe/index.php/RFMH/about/submissions, where the Author will find all the necessary information to make the submission. The use of this resource allows to follow the status of the manuscript through the indicated page.
The text of the manuscript (except the first page or title page) with the abstract and the keywords, the bibliographical references, the tables and their legends, and the feet of figures will be included in a single file. Each of the figures will be sent in separate files. These documents will be recorded in the "Attach Files" section.

All the manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter, which will be included in the "Attach Files" section of the delivery system, indicating:
1) The section of the journal in which you want to publish the work.
2) The statement that the work is original and is not being evaluated by any other scientific journal.
3) The explanation, in a paragraph at most, of what is the original contribution and the relevance of the work in the area of the journal.
4) Include that the instructions for the authors and the ethical responsibilities have been taken into account. Have all the signatory authors fulfill the requirements of authorship and have declared its existence, or not, of conflict of interests in the "Page of the title" as in the "Additional Information"section of the submission system.
5) In the event that part of the article had been previously published in another journal (redundant or duplicate publication), the details should be specified here and declare that it is in possession of the necessary publication permits of its author and editor.
The Journal of the Faculty of Human Medicine uses the external peer review system to guarantee the quality of the articles it publishes. Original and short original articles, review articles, case reports and special articles will be evaluated by two or more external reviewers. Letters to the editor, in addition to the editorial team, may be evaluated by at least one external reviewer. The reviewers are selected according to their experience in the respective subject, based mainly on publication indicators. Only those articles with favorable evaluations and that have resolved the comments sent are published. Likewise, in most cases, there is the support of peer experts in biostatistics and epidemiology who will focus on the methodological aspects of the studies. The average response time between receipt of the article and the decision of the editing committee varies between one to four months, depending on the speed of our reviewers and the response of the authors. Review articles, symposium articles, special section articles and case reports are evaluated by one or more reviewers. The editorials, letters to the editor, prominent personalities of public health and articles requested by the Journal (do not include those mentioned in the previous items), are evaluated only by the Editorial Board, except in cases where by agreement the participation of a external pair.
•The main author of the article has the right to consult us at any time about the progress of the revision of his article, for this he must consider the revision times that will be communicated to him upon receiving his article; The response of the observations must be given within three weeks of sending the file, if it requires more time you must communicate it previously. Specific rules for each section
The articles can belong to one of the following categories: Editorial; Original Articles; Brief Originals; Review Articles; Special Section; Symposium; Outstanding Personalities of Health in Peru or in the world; Case Report; Photo gallery, Letters to the Editor. The works may be presented at the initiative of the author, or on demand or at the request of the Editorial board of the journal.
Editorials Except for some exceptions, its wording will be done by order of the Editorial board on a current topic that refers or not to an article published in the same issue of the journal. It will have an extension of 800-1,000 words, with a maximum of 15 bibliographical citations. It is preferable that only one or two authors be included.
Only research product, and should be written up to 3500 words (without counting summary, references, tables and figures), according to the following scheme:
• Summary: In Spanish and English, around 250 words. It must be structured and concise: Objectives, Methods, Results and Conclusions. Keywords: From three to seven, BIREME's "descriptors in health sciences" (http://decs.bvs.br/E/homepagee.htm) should be used for keywords in Spanish and MeSH NLM (http://nlm.nih.gov/mesh/) for keywords in English.
• Introduction: Brief exposure (less than 25% of the length of the article) of the current situation of the problem, background, justification and objective of the study.
•Methods: Describe the methodology used, in such a way as to allow the reproduction of the study and subsequent evaluation of the quality of the information by the readers and reviewers. It is necessary to describe the type and design of the research, the characteristics of the population and the way the sample is selected when necessary.
Sometimes, it is convenient to describe the study area. If medicinal plants are used, the procedures for collection and identification should be described. Indicate how the variables of interest were measured or finalized. Show in detail the procedures performed, if they have been previously described, make the corresponding appointment. The statistical procedures used must be mentioned.
The ethical aspects involved in its implementation must be detailed, such as approval by an Institutional Ethics Committee, the use of informed consent, among others.
• Results: The presentation of the findings must be clear, without opinions or interpretations, except in those of statistical scope. You can complement up to eight tables or figures, which should not repeat the information presented in the text.
• Discussion: The results are interpreted, comparing them with the findings of other authors, exposing the suggestions, postulates or conclusions reached by the author. The limitations and biases of the study should be included.
• Acknowledgments: When appropriate, it should be mentioned in a specific way to whom and for what type of support in the investigation the gratitude is made.
• Conflicts of interest: It must be mentioned if there is a conflict of interest.
• Bibliographic references: In number no more than 30 references. And only if they have been cited in the text.
These articles are research results, and they may also include reports of outbreaks or preliminary research advances. Due to their importance. they require rapid publication and must be written in up to 2000 words (without counting summaries, references, tables and figures). The summary in Spanish and English is unstructured and has a limit of 150 words with three to five keywords. It contains an introduction, later the section called "The Study" - referring to materials and methods -, then findings - focused on the results - being able to include up to four tables or figures, discussion and no more than 15 bibliographical references.
It can be at the request of the Editorial Board or at the initiative of the authors, who must be experts in their area. They must include a thorough, objective and systematized exploration of the current information on a specific topic of interest in Public Health, Surgery, Clinical Sciences and Basic sciences. The structure of the article is at the discretion of the author, must be written up to 5,000 words (without counting summary, references, tables and figures), without counting tables or figures that will not be more than ten. It must include a summary in Spanish and English, unstructured, with a limit of 150 words, with three to five keywords. They will be able to use up to 150 bibliographical references.
They are written at the request of the Editorial Board for a particular topic that will be developed in a specific issue of the journal, may include opinions or essays on the chosen topic. The structure of the article is at the discretion of the author, should be written up to 4000 words (not including summary, references, tables and figures). Must contain a summary in English and Spanish, unstructured, with a limit of 150 words, with three to five keywords. They will be able to use up to 100 bibliographical references.
Article historical homage
This section publishes tributes to people who have contributed to health in Peru or the world, including a biographical note highlighting the main actions in the academic, professional and scientific life of the character, highlighting their contribution in the area, as well as as a photograph. It does not require a summary and may or may not have bibliographical references, its extension is up to 1800 words.
Articles that do not conform to other sections of the journal will be included, which include essays, opinions, systematizations and experiences that are of interest for the health of our country. The structure of the article is at the discretion of the author, which must be written up to 3000 words (without summaries, references, tables and figures) and the tables or figures will not be more than eight. It must include a summary in Spanish and English, unstructured, with a limit of 150 words, with three to five keywords. They will be able to use up to 50 bibliographic references.
Report of cases
The cases presented must be of diseases or situations of interest in health, these should be written up to 2000 words (without counting summary, references, tables and figures). The summary in Spanish and English is unstructured and has a limit of 150 words with three to five keywords. It contains an introduction, a section called "case report" and a discussion in which the contribution or teaching of the article is highlighted. You can include up to four tables or figures and no more than 15 bibliographical references.
You can send photos of interest on a particular health topic, accompanied by a brief comment on the subject and an explanation of the origin of the illustrations presented (up to 800 words). In addition, the photos must be accompanied by an explanatory legend. The Editorial board reserves the right to limit the number of illustrations.
Letters to the editor
This section is open to all readers of the Rev. Fac. Med. Hum. to which they can send their questions, comments or criticisms to the articles that have been published in the last issues, taking into account the possibility that the aforementioned authors can respond. The communication of investigations may be accepted. Page 123 INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREVIOUS AUTHORS or of interventions in outbreaks that have not been published or submitted to publication in another journal; as well as, some comments on public health problems, ethics and medical education. The maximum acceptable length is 1000 words (without counting references, tables or figures), with a maximum of six bibliographical references (including the reference of the article that motivated it, (when it is the case) and a table or figure.
Preparation of the article
The first page of the text should include:
• Title of work in Spanish and English.
• Abbreviated title in Spanish and English (maximum: 40 characters).
• Authors: names and surnames of all the authors will be indicated in the order in which they wish to appear in the article. It must be taken into account that the format that the authors choose for their signature will be, in case of publication of the article, the same one that will be indexed in the different bibliographic databases in which the journal is included. The maximum number will depend on the section of the journal.
• Work center for each and every one of the authors. Institutional affiliation, each author may include at most two affiliations relevant to the proposed article. It must include the city and the country.
• Profession and academic degree; Each author must indicate his profession and the highest academic degree completed. Likewise, you must indicate who is the correspondent author, indicating your address, telephone number and email address. In case the study has been presented as a summary to a congress or is part of a thesis you must specify it with the corresponding appointment, at the end of the article. The source of financing and declaration of conflicts of interest, can go at the end of the article.
• Keywords in Spanish and English (minimum and maximum as indicated).
• Source of financing of work, if applicable.
• Other relevant information about the work, if applicable. For example, if you have been previously presented at a conference, if you have received a prize. In the internal texts: The following aspects should be addressed:
• Double-spaced writings in Arial 12 font, in A4 format with 3 cm margins; It must include the title of the article but it must not contain data of the authors. Each section starts on a new page, enumerated consecutively and the texts should preferably be written in MS-Word.
Tables and figures
The figures (statistical graphs) and tables should be sent preferably in MS-Excel. The tables must have only horizontal lines to separate the header from the body of the table, but in no case should vertical lines be included. The figures will be presented separately from the text of the article, each one in a separate electronic file or page.
The numbering of tables and figures should be done separately and in Arabic numbers. Tables should appear at the end of the text, after the bibliography and should be as simple as possible and not duplicate information that is presented in the text. They should be self-explanatory, with a brief title describing their content. Its structure should be as simple as possible and present the information in a logical sequence, which usually means ordering it from left to right and top to bottom.
The rows and columns must be preceded by a short or abbreviated heading, which identifies exactly the material it contains. If the table occupies more than one page, the headings must be repeated in each one of them.
Consistency must be maintained in the punctuation or abbreviations of the words, or in the units of measure or decimals of the numerical data. It is advisable to present only the significant digits and to do it only with a decimal.
If abbreviations or symbols are used, if they are not self-explanatory, they should be made explicit by the use of footnotes. If data that do not come from the study are included, it should be clearly indicated with a footnote that identifies the source.
When more than one table is presented, it is convenient to use a similar format to facilitate its understanding to the reader. It must be verified that all the tables are mentioned in the text, and that the data presented agree with those that are cited. The figures should only be used when the information can not be presented clearly in any other way. The data already presented in the tables or the text should not be repeated in graphics.
In the elaboration of the graphics, special care must be taken not to distort what is intended to be shown, since visual presentation may induce the reader to misinterpret. Measuring scales must be clear and consistent.
Photographs, data charts and diagrams will be considered figures. Each one will go in a separate file preferably in JPG or TIFF format. The photographs will be carefully selected, omitting those that do not contribute to a better understanding of the text. It is important that the copy be of the best possible definition (300 dpi), to ensure the quality of the reproduction. The figure feet should be included, on a separate page, at the end of the manuscript, after the bibliography or after the tables, if any, with the Arabic numerals corresponding to the figure.
If photographs or patient data are reproduced, they should not be identifying the subject. In all cases, the authors must have obtained the written informed consent of the patient authorizing its publication, reproduction and dissemination on paper and on the Internet at the "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana". Also, the authors are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permits to reproduce in the "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana" material (text, tables or figures) previously published. These permits must be requested both from the author and from the publisher who has published said material.
The "Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana" in its printed version, publishes all the figures in gray scale and electronic version in color at no additional cost. When the publication in the printed version of the magazine of color photographs is desired, the expenses will be borne by the author, who will request a budget from the Publisher.
They will only be expressed to persons or entities that have made a notable contribution to making the work possible: a) contributions that should be appreciated but do not justify inclusion as an author, and b) thanks for technical assistance that should be recognized in a different paragraph. All persons specifically mentioned in "Acknowledgments" must know and approve their inclusion in said section.
The bibliographical references should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear for the first time in the text. References should be as recent and relevant as possible, and carefully written according to the Vancouver format (www.nlm.nih.gov/citingmedicine).
It is recommended to include hyperlink in each bibliographic reference.
Obligations of the author
Protection of people and animals. When describing experiments that have been carried out on humans, it must be indicated whether the procedures followed are in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible human experimentation committee (institutional or regional) and in accordance with the World Medical Association and the Declaration of Helsinki available at : https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects/.

When describing animal experiments, it should be indicated if the guidelines of an international research institution or council or a national law regulating the care and use of laboratory animals have been followed.
The authors are responsible for following the protocols established by their respective health centers in order to access the data of the clinical histories in order to be able to carry out this type of publication with the purpose of research / dissemination for the community, so they must declare the compliance with this requirement. The author has the obligation to guarantee that the requirement of having informed all the patients included in the study and that he / she is in possession of the document signed by them having received sufficient information and having obtained their informed written consent to participate, has been fulfilled. in the same. The authors must mention in the section "Methods" that the procedures used in patients and controls have been carried out after obtaining an informed consent.
The author is also responsible for guaranteeing the right to privacy of patients by protecting their identity both in the writing of their article and in the images. Do not use names, initials or hospital medical record numbers (or any other type of data irrelevant to the research that could identify the patient) or in the text or photographs, unless such information is essential for scientific purposes. cos, in which case you can collect it in the article provided that the patient or his parent or guardian gives written informed consent for its publication. The authors are responsible for obtaining written informed consent, authorizing its publication, reproduction and dissemination on paper and Internet freely available on the Internet.
The authors must declare the origin of any financial aid received. The authors must recognize whether the research has received funding from the US National Institutes of Health or if any of the authors belong to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
The list of authors should include only those people who have contributed intellectually to the development of the work. Having helped in the collection of data or having participated in some technique are not by themselves sufficient criteria to appear as an author (see "Acknowledgments"). In general, to appear as an author, the following requirements must be met:
1. To have participated in the conception and design, the acquisition of the data, the analysis and interpretation of the data of the work that has resulted in the article in question.
2. To have participated in the writing of the text and in the possible revisions of it.
3. Have approved the version that will finally be published. In case of collective authorship, the names of the editors or responsible for the work followed by "and the Group ..." will be included when all the members of the group consider themselves co-authors of the work. If you want to include the name of the group, even if not all of its members are considered co-authors, the formula used will be to mention the responsible authors followed by "on behalf of the Group ..." or "by the Group ...". In any case, the names and institutions of the members of the group will be included in an annex at the end of the manuscript. The authors will register both on the first page of the title and in the section Add / Edit / Remove / Author. Statement that they have read and approved the manuscript and that the requirements for authorship have been met.
