Pre-surgical information needs and their relationship with the level of state-trait anxiety in oncological and non-oncological patients awaiting surgery in the Urology Department of a hospital in Lima

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the level of trait-state anxiety and the need for information in oncological and non-oncological patients in the Department of Urology in a hospital in Metropolitan Lima, with the intention of contributing to the prevention of perioperative complications, improving the quality of care and encouraging discussion regarding the implementation of preoperative assessment protocols that take into account these psychological variables. The study was descriptive, correlational and comparative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional. We worked with a sample of 65 patients (21 patients in the oncological group and 44 in the nononcological group). The state-trait anxiety questionnaire (IDARE) and the Amsterdam preoperative anxiety and information need questionnaire (APAIS) were used. The results allow us to conclude that although there is a statistically significant relationship between state-trait anxiety and the need for information in non-oncology patients, there is no significant difference between the results of the two groups of patients.
