This essay appreciates the role of esquisse in the architecture teaching during the first design studios of Lima city as a short length project exercise. Even though, its use is constantly proposed as a first approach to the student in the career, the reflection about the variety of typologies that it can present is reduced. Thus,
based on the case studies analysis, it is highlighted the essential aspects in architecture that each esquisse addresses, as well as the formats and most proposed uses in its elaboration in order to articulate the design studio contents. Finally, its capacity to evaluate an initial studio is confirmed.
